On ‘Evil Genius’, by Catherine Jinks – Griffith Review
I couldn’t keep track of who was who amongst the faculty, and for a while there the story hung in limbo. From to evul, Catherine studied at the University of Sydney, graduating with an honours degree in medieval history.
Cadel’s eventual redemption is all too obvious and all too slow in coming, and the complex plots he weaves aren’t particularly compelling. Thadeus really appears to care about, or even love, Cadel. For one thing, he’s extremely gifted intelligence wise.
Unknown to his adoptive parents, Roth is actually part of Darkkon’s league of evil and instead of helping Cadel with his issues, Roth is helping Cadel embrace his evil side and learning how to be the evil genius his father desires.

He takes risks, is captured, escapes and is captured again, with both his life and the future of the world at stake. I wanted to become caterine author even when I was a child because I loved reading books so much. Sinceshe and her family have been living in Leura, NSW. He employs all his intelligence and the skills he has learned at the Axis Institute to escape, but his plans unravel disastrously.
It felt like standard fare and the effort put into explaining every detail weighed down the story. Yet his charm and likability do cannot help you from feeling frightened of him.

I could understand the alienation from feeling that people did not simply appreciate my better qualities, and I was able to vicariously exact my revenge through Cadel. With a series of breakneck twists and turns, Jinks’s the Pagan Chronicles latest novel follows Cadel Piggott, a seven-year-old Australian boy with an incredible mind and a proclivity catheribe mischief: The “Pagan” series is probably one of the best too little appreciated historical fiction series of books for kids out there, so it came as little surprise that Jinks was also the author of this little jewel.
Finding the answers for himself allows Cadel to find his own freedom from the people who want to control him. The end was catchy and descriptive. So, maybe my rating of this book is entirely comparative.
This destruction of his tormentors engenders schadenfreude in the reader, but it is clear that Cadel is motivated by his own pleasure in controlling the system rather than by the impact he has on those around him. Roth encourages the boy to develop increasingly destructive plans, such as orchestrating massive traffic jams and manipulating his classmates’ emotions so that they turn on one another.
If you knock that out and the whole system collapses, then you know you’ve got a handle on it. After Cadel graduates from high school, Thaddeus encourages him to enrol in the secretive, exclusive Axis Institute, founded by Phineas. Jinks has created an intricate, well-constructed and layered reality in this hefty novel, and as the complex deceptions that have jinkks Cadel’s life come to light, his emotional unraveling and awakening will likely engross readers.
